| Meet Trixi
Early Years Trixi was born in Virginia on November 30th, 2006. Little is known about her fur daddy or mommy but it is believed that they were both full-bred Rat Terriers. Seven months later her skin family placed her up for adoption at the Rockingham/Harrisonburg SPCA in Harrisonburg, VA. Trixi's humble beginnings and struggle as an orphan laid the foundation for the triumphs and tragedies that she would later face. Trixi's mommy, Mary, grew up in Virginia metropolitan area graduating from Einstein High School and later attended Shenandoah University majoring in music. After high school her daddy Mychael, served in the United States Military both in Virginia and Hawai'i as a light infantry member. He later returned home to Edinburg, VA in 2004. Failing to realize her calling, Mary put a hold on her college career and moved to Germantown, MD where she began working as director of a Christian day care. Meanwhile while her daddy was embarking on a new career as a Deputy Sheriff. As fate would have it, Mary & Mychael met on the internet in July 2004. Mary eventually moved to Edinburg with Mychael where she earned her bachelors degree through Concordia University Online and sought employment with the local social services office. A New Life On June 30, 2008 Trixi was adopted to her new skin family. She immediately stole their hearts with her addictive personality. Mary & Mychael's relationship further strengthened with her addition to their family. Little did they know how soon tragedy would strike. Only two days after Trixi's opportunity for a new life, she was diagnosed with the deadly virus, parvo. Faced with the unthinkable, Mary & Mychael were left with a decision no rattie owner wants to face; but there was always only one answer. Determined to save Trixi, her parents sought donations through grass root funding; enough to offset the high cost of her treatment. Generosity, love, and a little luck, Trixi was blessed with her second chance at a new life. 'Rattie' Days Remembering the values of Rattie-hood her fur mommy and daddy taught her, Trixi put a political career on hold to pursue a passion near and dear to her heart - rescues. She became an advocate for the Florida-based Ratbone Rescues seeking to improve quality of life for the entire Rattie Nation™. She traveled to Florida where her influence prompted her skin family to rescue a fellow Rat Terrier. On January 24, 2008, Trixi gave back as she welcomed home her new brother, Toa. She went on to teach and guide Toa over the coming months, where he became the first (known) blue rat terrier to graduate from puppy college. Soon after, she returned to her passion of helping rescues and visited others in the local kennels. The much success Trixi has come to realize drives her to not only improve the lives of Rat Terriers but others in our communities. Trixi, as Rat-Terrier.com President, creates a vision for the future, not only in our forums, but a change in our way of life as Rat Terriers.
A Vision For The Future The rich and varied experiences of Trixi's life - growing up in different places with people who had differing ideas and views - have molded her Rattie life. Amid the feelings of animosity and sometimes unabashed criticism of today's forums, she still believes in the ability to unite the Rattie Nation™ around a belief of unity - a unity that puts solving the challenges of everyday Rat Terriers ahead of personal agendas. In the kennels of Virginia, this meant serving as an ambassador between canines and humans to provide better living conditions amidst a parvo ridden environment. She worked with dogs to find the perfect companion, which in only a few months, resulted in new homes for many orphaned mammals at the kennel. After a number of her colleagues struggled with, and eventually succumbed to, the parvovirus, she adopted a policy of no-animal-left-behind. The great heartache and strife of watching so many senslessly die shaped her vision for the future. At home, in a world dominated by old school thinking, Trixi continues to fight for high standards and treatment for, not only Rat Terriers but, the entire canine family. Working on such issues as enhanced food quality, better health care, and improved disciplinary measures. Her first accomplishment came with her own skin family who now educates others on the importance of these issues and are advocates for Rat Terriers worldwide. As a member of Rat-Terrier.com, Trixi has fought to encourage adoption with hopes of eradicating irresponsible breeding and puppy mills. Recently, she supported a family's plan to adopt through Ratbone Rescues and participated in the transport of a young Rat Terrier named Lil' Sis. Because of her efforts, another rattie now enjoys the same freedoms and luxuries all Ratties deserve. Trixi can relate to Rat Terriers everywhere. Whether it's the feeling of abandonment as an orphan or surviving the tragedies of parvo, Trixi continues to speak out on the issues that will define Rat-Terrier.com in the next year. But above all her accomplishments and experiences, she is most proud and grateful for her family, Mary, Mychael, and Toa, who gave her the opportunity for a future. |
